Coldplay album ignites scented candle sales

Britain's scented candle industry has received an unexpected boost this summer following the release of Coldplay's latest album.

X&Y, released earlier this year, has seemingly triggered millions of people to purchase scented candles, turn the bathroom lights down low, and relax for 45 minutes of 'me time' while listening to the soothing tones of Coldplay.

The music is especially suited to relaxation, given that there are absolutely no surprises. Another factor is that listeners already know most of the songs from various TV spots and trailers for self-help programmes.

So clear is the link between Coldplay album releases and scented candle sales that manufacturers are already in talks with the band regarding possible tie-ins. "The next Coldplay album is quite likely to be scratch-n-sniff, with the cover infused with fair trade vanilla pod essence" says an industry insider.
